What NABP has announced
NABP’s October 6, 2026 announcement introduces OET Pharmacy as an alternative for FPGEC. The start is January 11, 2027, and tests taken before that date do not qualify. This is a future eligibility date, not confirmation that an October 2026 OET result can be used. Read the announcement.
What remains pending
At this guide’s verification date, the October bulletin says OET Pharmacy score requirements will be provided when available. We are not substituting nursing’s OET minimums or inventing a pharmacy cutoff. Check the bulletin for newly published scores.
It also specifies an approved computer-based OET test center in an NABP member or associate-member jurisdiction. Verify the exact venue and your application conditions before booking.
How to compare your options
First write down your application deadline and the date on which you need qualifying evidence. An upcoming option is useful only if its eligibility dates fit that plan. Then try a Pharmacy Writing task and role play, and compare them with fresh TOEFL tasks.
Consider your existing official results, your weakest skill, and the amount of time you can commit. TOEFL covers broader academic and everyday communication; Pharmacy OET practice focuses on healthcare communication. Neither choice eliminates the need to understand the question and give a clear response.
Prepare without an unsupported promise
Build transferable skills now: summarize relevant information, explain a reason clearly, and use plain language for an unfamiliar listener. Once the recipient publishes its OET scores, update your target sheet and decide whether changing exams is worthwhile.

Does OET replace all other FPGEC steps?
No. It is an English-language evidence option. Other certification and state licensure requirements remain separate.
